“The dematerialization begun in the Gothic era reaches its apotheosis in the microchip.” — Jacqueline Gargus, “The Late 20th Century: Architecture in the Post-industrial Age” from Ideas of Order: A Formal Approach to Architecture

My full name is Justin James Meza1 and I’m of Caucasian and Mexican descent. I grew up near Los Angeles, California, although I’m currently in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania working toward my Ph.D. at CMU.

These days, I spend all of my time performing research. I’m an avid music fan and when I used to have free time, I enjoyed playing the electric bass guitar and keyboard. I also enjoy art (oil paints and watercolors!), reading, writing, and, of course, programming :).

HP Labs did a little piece on me a while back, here, where I’m infamously described as “something of a foodie” :).

my favorite books

These are some non-fiction books I like to keep within arm’s reach:

This site was created using the Hakyll tool for static site creation. I utilized the Solarized color scheme and, if you’re using a modern browser, you should be able to see the Graublau Sans Web fonts for the headings. I generated the IPA pronunciation of my last name using the AT&T TTS applet.

The source code for this site can be found on its project page on GitHub.

  1. The IPA spelling of my last name is “meɪzʌ” and Spanish speakers will notice that it does not follow the phonetic rules of the language!
